BOOK IDEA: Divertissements qui dur et dur.

 SETTING: AMUSEMENT PARK with roller coasters, intricate shops with moving objects, walking, riding and distracted with pleasures.

From 1974 story about teens who take drugs and go on roller coasters.  Alternate reality/realizations of God may be exclusive. "Divertissements" that last and last.
